Texas car insurance is especially important, with news from Allstate car insurance that insured vehicles that were stolen and never found, increased by 11% in the last year.
The motor vehicles are being stolen for use in Mexico where they are used for transporting narcotics and human smuggling. After being used, the motor vehicles are used for parts or sold to buyers in Mexico and the U.S. The majority of vehicles stolen are full-size trucks and SUV’s due to their carrying capacity, value and ability to go off-road.
Unfortunately Texas car insurance is not looking like it is going to get any cheaper with Allstate car insurance company reporting that Texas has the second highest motor vehicle theft rate in the U.S.
Car owners can make their cars less attractive to thieves in a number of simple ways:
- Make sure your car is locked and your windows are fully rolled up.
- Park in a well-lit area where you can check on your vehicle every now and then.
- Make sure there are no valuables in sight, remove them from the vehicle or put them in your trunk. Remember to detach the face of your stereo if you can and take it with you.
- If you don’t have an alarm system, a steering wheel is an inexpensive way to make your vehicle look a little less attractive to thieves.
- If theft is a real concern to you having a ‘kill’ switch, fuel cut-off, smart key or tracking device installed on your car can be extremely effective ways to prevent theft and recover your vehicle quickly.
- With more than 75,000 air bags being stolen every year, a steering wheel cover can help to deter theft.
